About SparkDrupal

SparkDrupal is an independent educational resource dedicated to helping developers, site builders, and digital professionals get more from open-source content management systems — with a particular focus on Drupal and the broader web development ecosystem.

Open-source development community collaboration

What We Cover

The open-source CMS landscape is rich but complex. Drupal in particular has a reputation for being powerful and flexible, but also for having a steep learning curve. Our goal is to reduce that friction — providing clear, practical, technically accurate guidance for the full range of Drupal practitioners:

  • New Drupal users — demystifying installation, content types, and the admin interface
  • Intermediate site builders — Views, Layout Builder, field configuration, theming fundamentals
  • Developers — module development, APIs, custom code, deployment pipelines
  • IT leaders and evaluators — honest CMS comparisons, total cost of ownership, hosting options

Our Approach

We're independent. We don't work for any CMS vendor, hosting provider, or agency. That means our comparisons are genuinely neutral and our recommendations are based on fit — not affiliation. When Drupal is the right tool, we'll say so. When a simpler CMS better serves a use case, we'll say that too.

We believe in open-source software as a philosophy, not just a licensing model. The Drupal project, which began in 2001, has demonstrated that community-driven software development can produce enterprise-grade results. The Drupal community is one of the largest open-source communities in the world, and the peer review, shared ownership, and contributor culture that defines it produces software with a quality bar that proprietary alternatives often can't match.

On the Name

The spark of an idea — that's how great web projects begin. A new site, a redesign, the decision to migrate from a legacy platform. SparkDrupal exists to help those sparks turn into production-ready websites. We provide the technical grounding, the context, and the practical how-tos to take projects from concept to launch.
